A video of a newlywed couple in London in the United Kingdom choosing to hop on the metro to their wedding reception, instead of a traditional car journey, has gone viral on TikTok.
The video, shared by wedding photographer Sophie Cheverst (@photosfromsophie), features the couple elegantly dressed—the bride in a white halter neck gown, the groom in a sharp black suit with a cream tie—as they ride a London Underground train, also known as the Tube, to their reception near Trafalgar Square.
Text overlaid on the video reads: “This couple hopped on a Tube instead of getting a cab on their wedding day. Wait until you see the photos…” The clip has had over 757,000 views since it was posted on April 10.
Cheverst, 31, is a wedding photographer based in Kent, England, covering both U.K. and destination weddings. She told Newsweek that the wedding took place on March 8 and that the moment captured in the video was entirely authentic. “It was their real wedding, not a photoshoot,” Cheverst said. “They needed the Tube after their Marylebone Town Hall wedding to get to their reception location, which was in Trafalgar Square.”

The viral video comes as six out of 10 couples got married in a place where they currently live, while nearly a quarter (23 percent) opted for a hometown venue, according to a survey of 17,000 couples in the United States who got married last year conducted by The Knot, the wedding planning website.
Just under of fifth (18 percent) of couples in the country were reported to have had a destination wedding in 2024, according to the survey.
The viral clip shows the couple boarding a train at Marylebone Station with a small group of guests. The bride beams in her minimalist white dress while the groom stands beside her, surrounded by smiling passengers.
“The other people on the Tube were watching in awe—they loved it,” Cheverst said. “The couple received many well wishes and congratulations.”
In the video, viewers are treated to a mix of color as well as black-and-white photos—moments that include the couple walking through the station, standing on the platform, and sharing a kiss just as a train arrives. Later, the couple is seen walking out of Charing Cross station, headed to continue their celebration.
“My favorite moment [that] I captured was them having a kiss whilst the tube pulled in behind them,” Cheverst said. “I love the motion. They really wanted this shot, so I made it happen. We did it twice to get the perfect shot; we waited for the next train.”
The couple told Newsweek that their unconventional choice was about both practicality and symbolism. “It was partly because of how quick the journey was to the venue—you can never rely on London traffic—but also because for us it symbolizes London and offered great natural photo opportunities, like the one in front of the tube train rolling in to platform,” they said.
They added: “We really wanted our day to celebrate everything London, as this is our home,” and praised Cheverst’s work, saying she “100 percent achieved this” with her photos.
