Rocket Classic: $9.6M Payout as Aldrich Potgieter Claims 1st PGA Tour Win

Three players were atop the Rocket Classic (formerly known as the Rocket Mortgage Classic) after regulation, as it took five extra holes to decide a winner.

Chris Kirk, Max Greyserman and Aldrich Potgieter all finished at 22-under overall. Potgieter outlasted the others to claim his first PGA Tour win and become the youngest South African to get the job done.

He made an incredible 17-footer for birdie on the fifth extra hole, the par-3 15th, to defeat Greyserman. Kirk eliminated himself on the second playoff hole after he missed a short par putt on the 15th.

The 20-year-old South African did not have his best stuff at the start of his fourth round, but he did not get discouraged. A bogey on the 15th in regulation almost cost him, but Potgieter got into the playoff after he made a birdie on 17 to sign for a 3-under 69 and secure his spot in the playoff.

With his first win, the youngster will take home a $1,728,000 prize and 500 FedEx Cup points. He went from 73rd in the FedEx Cup standings to 36th.

Greyserman earned his second top 10 of the season and sixth career runner-up finish. He and Kirk fired off 67s on Sunday to get into the playoff. They share a tie for second place and each takes home $854,400.

Jake Knapp and Michael Thorbjornsen tied for fourth at 21-under overall. Knapp had a shot at the title after he set the course record earlier in the week, but a final round 68 was not enough to get the job done. He and Thorbjornsen earned $432,000 with their finishes.
