Scottie Scheffler Buried in the Woods at The Masters, Still Makes Good

Scottie Scheffler is known for his sober style on the golf course. He is rarely seen making a grand gesture or engaging in behavior that could be described as bizarre.

However, it was his turn to provide one of the humorous touches of the second round of the 2025 Masters Tournament when cameras caught him sitting under the trees to the left of the 18th fairway looking as if he was doing anything but defending the title of the season’s first major.

The situation stemmed from his tee shot, which traveled 249 yards to land in the middle of the trees. When he got there, Scheffler found the ball under low branches that practically prevented him from standing under them.

Whether he was waiting for the rules official or contemplating his next move, the truth is that the World No. 1 was sitting under the branches with the face of someone who had no intention of taking another step.

It is surely one of the images of the tournament.

Some pictures circulating on social media even show his caddie, Ted Scott talking to him from outside the trees.

Nonetheless, Scheffler was back to work quickly and in his usual form. He didn’t take a penalty stroke, instead opting to play the ball from there, standing as best he could on the spot. His next shot sent the ball down the fairway, leaving him 214 yards from the hole and a good chance for par.

His prospects for the hole looked much worse when his third shot went long into the crowd behind the green. However, Scheffler left with the best possible result, chipping the ball to within eight inches of the hole and making the putt for bogey.

Scheffler closed out the third round with six birdies and five bogeys. A day earlier he had carded four bogey free birdies, and his 36-hole score is 5-under. He will start the Moving Day tied for 5th place.

“I had a couple three-putts. I didn’t hit as many fairways. I got myself in trouble off the tee on 18,” Scheffler said while assessing his second round performance.

“I did a good job of making some key up-and-downs, and I had the chip-in on 12, good up-and-down for par on 13, took advantage of a look there on 14. Overall I felt like I did some good things out there to stay in the tournament.”

Scottie Scheffler will continue the defense of his Masters Tournament title this Saturday at 14:10 Eastern Time when the third round begins. He will be joined by Tyrrell Hatton.
