The ’90s gave us a lot of unforgettable Disney movies — The Mighty Ducks, Cool Runnings, Hocus Pocus — but Heavyweights? That one might not be top of mind for the House of Mouse. At least, that’s what Ben Stiller thinks.
On Tuesday, February 18, the 59-year-old Hollywood icon marked the 30th anniversary of Heavyweights on X (formerly Twitter) by reposting a fan’s celebratory message calling it “the most underrated Disney movie of all time.”
The 1995 comedy, which follows a group of kids at a weight-loss summer camp that’s taken over by an intense fitness guru, starred Stiller alongside Kenan Thompson, Aaron Schwartz, and Tom McGowan.

“Somehow I don’t think this will be at the head of the Disney+ queue ever. In fact I’m not sure they are aware they made it. But that was an incredibly fun summer in North Carolina 30 years ago. #Heavyweights,” the Meet the Parents star added.
Even if Disney barely remembers Heavyweights, the comments section of Stiller’s post made one thing clear — fans definitely do.

“One of the greatest movies ever. Still quote to this day, ‘lunch is cancelled today due to lack of hustle,'” one person wrote.
“This movie had a lasting impact I feel on so many kids who saw it in this era. And the one’s that haven’t seen it, it pains me they don’t get my references to it when I make them lol,” remarked another.
“One of the greatest comedies of my childhood, that film has aged like the finest of wines,” chimed in a third.
“Literally my fav Disney movie!” someone else declared.
“A cult classic that will continue to be adored 🍫 ❤️,” one person pointed out.
“Legitimately one of my favorite movies ever. Thank you for creating this outstanding content,” another added.
This isn’t the first time the cast and crew have celebrated Heavyweights years after its release. Back in 2022, Judd Apatow — who produced the flick alongside Steven Brill — took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes photos for the film’s 27th anniversary, calling it “a magical experience” and reminiscing about their time filming in North Carolina.
Originally released in 1995, Heavyweights didn’t exactly make a splash at the box office, earning under $18 million. Critics weren’t kind either, with The New York Times calling it “two movies in one” that didn’t quite mesh. But over the years, the film has gained a loyal following, with Disney even releasing a Blu-ray version in 2012.
