Struggling to put on a duvet cover is a universal experience, but one man’s attempt at a so-called “hack” has gone hilariously wrong—and the internet can’t stop laughing.
In a viral TikTok video, the man crawled inside the duvet cover trying to pull off an easier way to get the cover on. But what started as a joke quickly turned into a mild panic as he realized he was claustrophobic. Since the video was posted, it has received 2.3 million likes, with some viewers even calling it the funniest video of the year so far.
“He said he knew a hack for putting the duvet sheet on,” the creator, @amygerrard, captioned the video. “I’m claustrophobic.”

In the video, Gerrard films the man inside of the duvet cover on top of the bed, seemingly trying to find the corners of the duvet to hold. What ensues is a variety of questionable methods—including a front flip onto the bed—some of which seemed to serve no purpose whatsoever.
“This all started as a joke and it’s actually quite panicky,” the man said from inside the duvet cover at the end of the video.
What Did the Comments Say?
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the chaotic scene.
“I am not exaggerating when I say this is the first TikTok video that makes me cry of laughter,” one person wrote.
Another could relate to the chaos: “My boyfriend tried to show me this ‘hack’ too! Where are the men seeing it? I had to rescue him. He’s 44.”
One commenter even saw an unexpected benefit in the attempt.
“Thank you so much for this life hack. I’ll use it the next time I need my boyfriend to get stuck in a duvet cover,” they wrote.
How to Actually Use the ‘Inside-Out’ Duvet Hack
As entertaining as the video was, some viewers were left questioning the method’s legitimacy as a whole. But others knew that the man had just not done it correctly.
“Does he know he doesn’t have to be in it to do the inside-out method?” one person asked.
For those looking to put on a duvet cover without getting trapped inside, here’s how the inside-out method actually works:
- Turn the duvet cover inside out and lay it flat on your bed.
- Place the duvet on top of the cover and line up the corners.
- Start rolling the duvet and cover together—like a burrito—from the closed side to the open side.
- Flip the duvet cover right-side out by tucking the edges over the rolled-up duvet.
- Unroll everything—congratulations! No crawling inside of the duvet cover required.
While this man’s attempt didn’t quite go to plan, at least he provided the internet with some much-needed entertainment.
