A couple faced with their golden retriever repeatedly stealing blankets from their sofa have come up with a bizarre, but effective, response—to make the strangest noises possible to distract him.

A woman who posts to TikTok under the username @logsnlou shared a video to her account on January 26, where she wrote in a caption: “Idk what’s worse, the dog or boyfriend.”

Recording from the sitting room, where the dog is trying his best to pull a fluffy orange blanket off the sofa, she wrote: “POV: All hope has been lost and dog dad has resulted to making ungodly noises to stop the blanket stealing.”

As Louie the golden tugs on the blanket in an attempt to pull it off, his owner suddenly lets out a bizarre noise, changing to higher pitches the longer it goes on. And it works, as Louie’s ears perk up and he stops, going to his dad to find out what’s going on.

But it doesn’t last, as moments later Louie is back to grab a blanket—and again, his owner lets out wild, random noises, only stopping when Louie drops it and goes over to inspect him.

Louie walks to his owner, but as he’s firmly told to “stop,” he again goes straight back to the blanket, only to be called yet again with a high-pitched shout.

The battle continues, with the woman behind the camera heard giggling, and it ends with Louie getting what he wants: the blanket, which he takes over to his bed and settles down with.

She issued a disclaimer at the end of the clip, writing “results may vary,” and in a comment, humorously wrote: “If you’re my trainer watching this, no you aren’t.”

TikTok users were in stitches, watching the video over 157,000 times, with one commenter writing: “He’s looking like ‘dude wtf is your issue?'”

Another laughed at how “the noises to get their attention get more and more unhinged,” with the owner replying that her boyfriend was “slowly losing his sanity.”

And one commenter revealed that their own dog “heard this and froze on the spot.”

According to a report from Rover.com, dog owners can change unwanted behavior using positive reinforcement, by rewarding an animal when it does what you want.

Owners may also use a noise interrupter to distract the dog, or redirect their attention to another object or activity, the article suggests. Use time-outs when appropriate, but avoid instilling pain or anxiety in the animal, it says.

Louie’s owner’s TikTok account is full of the dog up to mischief, digging in the garden with his owner, watching TV, playing fetch, fooling around in the snow, and undergoing training.
