It’s been over 35 years since Rob Reiner’s When Harry Met Sally hit the big screen and rekindled the flame that burns with the everlasting question, “Can men and women be just friends?”
Now, the film’s stars, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, are back to recreate that movie magic one more, but this time for a Super Bowl advert about Hellmann’s mayonnaise.
Opening with that same tracking shot across Katz’s Delicatessen in New York, the advert lands on the duo, who are sat at the same table they graced in the late ’80s.
Crystal breaks the fourth wall, saying, “I can’t believe they let us back in this place.”
If you’ve seen When Harry Met Sally, you won’t have a hard time wondering why Crystal’s surprised to be welcomed back at the Deli. In the movie, Meg Ryan delivers her iconic faux orgasm to prove to Crystal’s Harry that women have no problems faking it in bed.
Now, Ryan is back delivering a contemporary version of that moment – dazzled by the mayonnaise that jazzes up her simple sandwich.
The When Harry Met Sally scene doesn’t just stick in the minds of rom-com lovers for the hilarious patter between Ryan and Crystal, but also for the brilliant one-liners, including the one from the supporting artist at the end of the original scene who says, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
They didn’t forget to include that moment in this rendition, and they even brought in a familiar face to deliver the line (one who has made her own name as a rom-com star in the recent release, Anyone But You) Sydney Sweeney.
In an interview with CNN, Ryan said she’s grateful for the chance to give the film’s fans a glimpse into Harry and Sally’s future.

Hellmann’s
“I don’t know that they intended it, but what we like about it is that you’re inside a little bit of their happily after ever,” Ryan said. “Thirty-five years later, you get the idea that they’re still going here, they’re together, they’re still talking the way they talk to each other. It’s like a little wink at the movie.”
Crystal also had fun with the opportunity to revisit his role, telling CNN, “When we walked onto the set together, it was just like, ‘Here we are.’ Same table, same pastrami sandwich, same indigestion. And you know, it felt kind of great.”
