Contradictory Reports Emerge on Potential Giannis Antetokounmpo, Warriors Trade

The Golden State Warriors are expected to be very aggressive during the upcoming NBA offseason. After coming up short in the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves without Stephen Curry, the idea of trading for another star alongside him has picked up some steam.

One name to keep a very close eye on heading into the offseason is Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

When the Bucks were eliminated from the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers in the first round, rumors and reports immediately started coming out about Antetokounmpo’s future. It has been reported that he is “open-minded” to the idea of being traded out of Milwaukee.

Assuming Antetokounmpo is actually available, the Warriors would make a lot of sense as a destination. He’s exactly the kind of player they could use alongside of Curry to take the next step and get back to being serious NBA Finals contenders.

With that being said, is Golden State an actual potential suitor for the “Greek Freak” or is it just a fun idea?

ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst spoke out on the matter. He can see a world where the Warriors pull off a trade for Antetokounmpo.

“Yes, there is a package that the Warriors could use. They have some future draft picks. They have interesting young players,” Windhorst said.

“Like last year, Brandon Podziemski was off limits. Who knows if that’s going to be the case this year? But they can’t win a bidding war. First off, I just want to say Giannis has not let it be known he certainly wants out of Milwaukee, so I do not think we should assume that. If we do reach that point where Giannis was going to look around, he will have agency in this. He has two years left on his contract. The Bucks don’t have to listen to him. But if he were to come to Milwaukee and say, I want to play with Steph [Curry], there could be a deal worked out.”

This news comes after Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic reported that Golden State wasn’t expected to go after Antetokounmpo.

Throughout the course of the 2024-25 NBA season, Antetokounmpo put up massive production. He averaged 30.4 points per game to go along with 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks. In addition, he also shot 60.1 percent from the floor.

At 30 years old, Antetokounmpo wants to win. Joining forces with Curry might just be his best opportunity to do so.

Golden State would have to give up a big trade package to bring him in. However, if the Warriors are still all in on winning a championship and aren’t worried about the long-term picture as much, going all-in to acquire Antetokounmpo would be well worth the price.
