Suns Rumors: Kevin Durant Reportedly Eyeing Trade to Western Conference Squad

The Phoenix Suns’ 2024-25 season was a complete disaster, and the team ended up missing the postseason entirely. Despite having stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster, Phoenix just couldn’t overcome the bare bones of the remaining roster.

With the Suns underperforming once again, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of Durant with the club. Durant was reportedly almost moved at the trade deadline, and many around the NBA believe that he could be on his way out this summer.

According to Kelly Iko and Sam Amick of The Athletic, Durant seems to be eyeing the Houston Rockets in a trade.

“He is known to be very interested in playing in Houston,” Kelly Iko and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported Monday. “Team sources said the Rockets still have significant reservations about that possible partnership, in large part, because Durant’s age (36) would be so out of sync with their younger timeline.”

Even with Durant’s interest in the Rockets, a deal could be tough to make. The Rockets are reportedly hesitant about bringing Durant in due to his age.

Durant will be 37 by the time next season kicks off, and Houston has one of the better young cores in the NBA. The Rockets may not be interested in breaking things up for an aging Durant.

But even with his advanced age, Durant showed that he is still one of the better scorers in the league today. For the season, the Suns’ star averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 steals per game.

Adding a player like Durant would increase the Rockets’ chances of winning the NBA title and would give them a legitimate “go-to” type of player. Houston clinched the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference this past season but was eliminated in seven games by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

It remains to be seen how this will all shake out, but Durant certainly has some power in everything. If the Rockets decide that Durant is the missing piece, the 15-time All-Star and former MVP could be heading back to Texas next season.
