Former MLB superstar Ken Griffey Jr. has played at Augusta National, but this week he’s enjoying the Masters in a far different capacity.
As an employee.
The Masters hired Griffey to be one of their official photographers this year, and they’ve got the MLB Hall of Famer working overtime.
Earlier in the week, Griffey took some amazing shots during the Par-3 Contest, which included one of Jordan Spieth and his daughter that went viral.
He was also front and center at the honorary starter ceremony on Thursday and floating around the course taking photos during most of the first round.
This isn’t Griffey’s first rodeo in photography. He’s being doing so religiously since his baseball playing days ended. In addition to taking pictures at his son’s football games at Florida A&M, he’s also had the opportunity to shoot NFL games, the MLB All-Star Game, several Indy Car events and was spotted at multiple Inter Miami matches to document Lionel Messi’s arrival in the MLS.
But golf is his primary focus of attention these days, and being able to work the Masters has “been unbelievable and wild,” he told Morning at the Masters.

Griffey holds a 4-handicap, regularly plays in celebrity tournaments like the American Century Championships in Lake Tahoe, and was recently part of “The Match: Superstars” on TNT this past November.
“If you ask my wife, she says I play too much golf,” Griffey once told the Seattle Times.
The 13-time All-Star and 1997 Most Valuable Player retired from baseball in 2010, and his 630 home runs rank seventh all-time in MLB history.
But it seems clear that he derives just as much, if not more, joy from being on the golf course today. So this likely won’t be the last time you see him at Augusta, regardless of whether he has a camera or a club in his hands while he’s there.
