Woman Has Plan To Save $65 Item Being Confiscated by TSA, Airport Not Happy

A Florida woman has gained viral attention after sharing the clever way she stopped her expensive spray tan bottle from being confiscated by airport security.

Kyndall Brooke Roberts, 32, from Daytona Beach, was traveling when she realized her brand-new $65 spray tan bottle was still in her carry-on bag. TSA regulations only allow liquids up to 3.4 ounces, meaning her full-sized bottle would be confiscated. But instead of losing it to the trash, she devised an unconventional solution—hiding it in a nearby plant.

“I knew it would be stopped at security the moment I realized it was still with me and not in my check-in bag,” Roberts told Newsweek. “I needed a plan B because they confiscated it.”

Roberts used her initiative, and took the $65 bottle to a nearby plant in the airport, hiding it underneath.

Amazingly, four days later, the bottle was still there, where Roberts could pick it up and take it home.

“I was surprised when I found it still there. You can hear the excitement in my voice and see it in my body language,” she said.

Roberts’ hack quickly gained attention on TikTok where she shared the story. Many commenters called her a “genius” for thinking outside the box. Some commenters praised her problem-solving skills, while others admitted they wished they had thought of the idea.

“A literal genius,” one commenter wrote. Another user added: “God, that is so smart. How have I never thought of this?”

Despite praise online for Roberts’ actions online, Daytona Beach International Airport’s Joanne Magley told Newsweek that hiding things in an airport is not a good idea: “First, an act like that could get her in trouble with security and law enforcement for hiding an item inside an airport. Even thought it was only shampoo, if someone saw her do that and reported it, that could have been an action that shut down the airport while security did a sweep.”

In fact, Daytona Beach International Airport have a free mail back program for passengers who have left non-cabin approved items in hand luggage: “But what many people don’t realize—even though we promote it—is that we may be one of the only airports that offer a free mail back program if you accidentally bring an item in your carryon bag that is not permitted on board,” said Magley. “For instance, say you forget you had an antique pocketknife in your possession. At DAB, our TSA agents will have you step aside, you can put that pocketknife (or $65 bottle of lotion) in an envelope that you seal and then address. Our airport staff will then mail that item back to you free of charge. So, no need to risk getting a security violation or the plant watering staff to throw it away.”
