The Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the NBA but they have looked a little more beatable this season than they did last year. Boston stomped the competition last season en route to winning their 18th NBA championship.
But it seems that teams have started to figure this team out just a little bit. With the NBA trade deadline coming up, Boston isn’t expected to do much but there is always a chance for it to happen.
This team has a solid core in place but the luxury tax issues can be problematic under the new CBA. With this new trade idea from Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, Boston brings back a former fan-favorite guard to help bolster the overall depth.
The deal would be between the Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans, bringing Javonte Green back to Boston. Here is what the deal would look like:
Boston Celtics receive: Javonte Green
New Orleans Pelicans receive: Jaden Springer and a 2030 second-round pick
“Green, who opened his career in Boston, would provide a little boost. The 31-year-old is, at worst, a defense-first energizer who always supplies the hustle. But if his three-ball keeps falling like it has this season (career-high 38.2 percent, albeit on limited volume), he’d have a non-zero chance of becoming at least a semi-regular in the rotation.”

Springer has played much better of late but he is one of the only trade chips that Boston has to use. The team may elect not to deal him but if they want to make any depth upgrades, it seems that he will be the odd man out of the rotation.
Green has averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this season for the Pelicans. The veteran could help give this Celtics team a nice boost off the bench, adding more firepower to the mix.
The guard is shooting 37.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line this season so he would fit in well with the Celtics. Boston shoots the most 3-point attempts across the league so Green would only help enhance that fact.
Green was loved by the Celtics during his previous stint with the organization and he has been linked to Boston for most of the year. It remains to be seen if the Celtics will ultimately make a move but Green could be a good option.
