Jefferson Parish deputies fatally shot a 46-year-old man after allegedly killing his wife and toddler daughter and wounding two other children in their River Ridge, Louisiana home early Saturday morning according to local authorities.
Police responded to a 911 call from one of the injured children around 4 a.m. at a single-story home in the 10000 block of Stephen Drive, a suburb near New Orleans.
Newsweek contacted Jefferson Parish Sherrif’s Public Information Office via email on Saturday for additional comment.
What To Know
Sheriff Joe Lopinto reported that when deputies arrived, they discovered the man’s 40-year-old wife and 2-year-old daughter deceased in the hallway. A 9-year-old girl was found critically wounded and was transported to Children’s Hospital.
The man’s 13-year-old daughter, who had sustained an ankle wound, had hidden and made the 911 call that alerted police.
When deputies entered and continued through the house, they encountered the father in a back bedroom. According to Lopinto, the man “produced a firearm at that time,” leading deputies to fire upon and fatally wound him inside the residence.
The identities of those involved have not been released. The sheriff’s office has not yet determined whether there was any history of domestic violence calls from the home.
