KDKA, the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, reported Tuesday that the Penguins’ assistant captain was the victim of a home burglary on Saturday. Among the items reported stolen from his Sewickley Heights home: Malkin’s Stanley Cup championship rings from 2009, 2016, and 2017.

Malkin is a cornerstone of the Pittsburgh Penguins, having spent his entire 18-year career with the team. He was drafted second overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in 2006.

Malkin has been instrumental in the Penguins’ success, including their three Stanley Cup wins. He is known for his exceptional skill, scoring ability, and playmaking, which have made him one of the most prolific scorers in NHL history.

Malkin, 38, is the 48th player in NHL history to score 500 career goals and the second Russian to achieve this milestone after Alex Ovechkin.

KDKA’s Jennifer Borrasso reported the back door of Malkin’s home was kicked in and at the time of the break-in, the alarm system and cameras happened to be down. His safe was kept open, as well.

The timing of the break-in suggested the perpetrator targeted a time when Malkin would be at work. The Penguins played a 4 p.m. ET game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon, losing 5-0, and the 9-1-1 call came in a few hours later according to KDKA.

Malkin didn’t play in the game because of an upper-body injury. He was placed on injured reserve Sunday after missing his fourth consecutive game. Prior to sustaining the injury, Malkin had played in 209 consecutive games — the 12th-longest active streak in the NHL.

Malkin has eight goals and 24 assists in 41 games this season for the Penguins, who are 18-20-8 after losing Tuesday to the Seattle Kraken.

Coincidentally, Malkin’s linemate Michael Bunting was involved in a car accident outside of PPG Paints Arena before Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. Although he’s OK, Bunting did not play in the game.
