Carrie Underwood to Perform at Trump Inauguration

Carrie Underwood will perform a rendition of “America the Beautiful” at President-elect Donald Trump‘s inauguration on January 20.

A Presidential Inaugural Committee spokesperson confirmed the appearance to Newsweek on Monday.

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Underwood email for comment.

Why It Matters

Underwood, 41, is the first big-name performer to be confirmed for the inaugural festivities next Monday. She recently performed a medley of her hits on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang “America the Beautiful” at Trump’s 2017 inauguration. The ceremony also included a performance by America’s Got Talent star Jackie Evancho.

What To Know

On Monday, political reporter Matthew Foldi shared a program for the upcoming inauguration on X, revealing Underwood will be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

Trump’s 2017 pre-inauguration Make America Great Again Welcome Celebration concert included performances by Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, DJ Ravidrums, The Piano Guys, and Lee Greenwood, who sang his hit “God Bless the USA.”

Jennifer Lopez performed “America the Beautiful” and “This Land Is Your Land” at Joe Biden‘s 2021 inauguration.

Is Carrie Underwood a Republican?

Underwood has not spoken about her political stance throughout her career. In 2019, she told The Guardian, “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins.

“It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that,” Underwood added.

While hosting the 2017 Country Music Awards, Underwood and Brad Paisley poked fun at Trump’s social media etiquette with a song called “Before He Tweets,” a parody of her smash hit “Before He Cheats.”

Born on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and raised on her family’s farm in Checotah, Underwood rose to fame after winning Season 4 of American Idol in 2005. She will return to Idol as judge for the show’s upcoming Season 23, replacing Katy Perry.

Her debut album, Some Hearts, became the best-selling debut album by a female country artist, featuring hits like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats.”

Over her career, she has released numerous chart-topping albums, won multiple Grammy Awards, and become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Underwood is married to former NHL player Mike Fisher, and they have two sons.
