PGA Tour: Tiger Woods, Nicklaus, Snead Move Over for Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is currently more than just the favorite in virtually every tournament he plays—his every start is potentially a historic milestone. As you may guess, Scheffler’s victory in the 2025 Memorial Tournament was no exception.

His win at Muirfield Village made him the fourth-quickest player in PGA Tour history between their first and 16th win on Tour. Who did it faster? Some guys named Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

His victory also made him only the second player to win the Memorial Tournament in consecutive years. Woods was the previous to do so, having won in 1999, 2000, and 2001 (he would later win again in 2009 and 2012).

The World No. 1 also joined a select group of players who have won seven tournaments by four or more strokes over the past 40 years. According to golf statistician Justin Ray, Scheffler is joined by Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and Vijay Singh, and they all follow Dustin Johnson (8), Davis Love III (9), and Tiger Woods (24).

Only Woods and Scheffler among this group have achieved three or more wins by four or more strokes in a single season. Woods won five such events in 2000 and three in 2003, while Scheffler won three in 2024 and has the same amount already in 2025.

However, Scheffler claims he pays little attention to these and the other reasons why the golf world considers him the best player today.

“I don’t really think about that stuff, to be honest with you,” Scheffler said after his victory. “I treat each tournament individually, and every tournament’s different, and I try to do my best to come out here and compete.”

“That’s what I love to do. I love being able to play the PGA Tour, and I love being able to compete against the best players in the world and play on great golf courses like this one and be able to play in these legacy tournaments, like Mr. Palmer’s tournament, Mr. Nicklaus’s tournament.”

Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament with a score of 10-under, finishing four strokes ahead of Ben Griffin. He carded rounds of 70, 70, 68, and 70 and reached 31 consecutive bogey-free holes between the second and fourth rounds.

The Ridgewood, New Jersey native has now won three tournaments this season, including a major championship. He has finished in the top 25 in all 12 PGA Tour events he has played in this year.
