The Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting patiently for a decision from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers throughout the entire NFL offseason so far. With the start of the offseason program coming up quickly and training camp not terribly far off, they still do not have an answer from him.
Rodgers has remained a free agent to this point. He’s still expected to sign with the Steelers, but that is not a done deal right now.
Currently, the team has two quarterbacks on the roster. Mason Rudolph and Will Howard are their current starting options. Both players are talented, but neither would be an ideal starter to contend in 2025.

While fans are still hopeful of Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh and that scenario seeming likely, one ESPN analyst has urged the team to make a shocking decision regarding the 41-year-old quarterback.

Mike Wilbon did not hold back his thoughts about what the Steelers should do when it comes to Rodgers. He doesn’t think they should sign him.
“What are we talking about? Do people just look at actually what happens in sports? Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been relevant as a quarterback in the NFL for four or five seasons. The hallmark of the Pittsburgh Steelers is not stupidity,” Wilbon said. “It’s a smart organization that makes right moves over decades. And they’re gonna bring Aaron Rodgers in, with all his drama, into that room?”
Passing on Rodgers would be a major decision by Pittsburgh. It doesn’t seem likely that the Steelers would pass on him, but Wilbon doesn’t seem to think he’s the right fit for the team.
Over the last two years with the New York Jets, Rodgers has suffered disappointment. He tore his Achilles on the first possession of the 2023 season. Last year, the team didn’t live up to expectations.

While the team didn’t play well last season, Rodgers did complete 63 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Those numbers show he can still play at a high level, as he out-produced even Patrick Mahomes.
Wilbon may not think that Pittsburgh should sign Rodgers, but he could be the piece that powers the team to the Super Bowl. He’s still capable of being an elite NFL quarterback.
Expect to continue hearing more news, rumors, and opinions about Rodgers and the Steelers in the coming days. Until he makes an official decision, this situation will be one of the most talked about storylines in the league.
