A woman has filmed the moment her workout was cut short after she heard an unusual sound coming from the barn.
The May 14 video quickly went viral, gathering 4.9 million views. It shows Lexi Hagen, 36, (@thatragamuffinmama) performing a Bulgarian split squat while holding a kettlebell. Then, a high-pitched, short “mew” sound can be heard, and she instantly drops the weight.
Hagen, from Lacassine, Louisiana, followed the noise and discovered a tiny kitten—and then three more—hiding inside the undercarriage of her side-by-side UTV.
She told Newsweek: “When I heard the meows, I realized that they must have been the kittens of a cat we had recently found deceased. Knowing it had been a couple [of] days since we found her, I panicked because I knew they must have been starving.”

The registered nurse explained that their mom had been found on the property, presumably savaged by stray dogs.
She cared for the kittens for six days before finding them forever homes.
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an estimated 60 to 100 million homeless cats live in the United States. Like the cats we keep as pets, feral cats are domesticated animals who rely on humans for food, water, shelter, and protection from danger.

She told Newsweek: “It was difficult to determine the kittens[‘] age, so I tried wet kitten food first since it was easiest to find near me.
“Once I saw they could eat that, then I added kitten milk replacement and created a gruel for them.
“Other than feeding them, I introduced a litter box, gave them a warm, comfy, safe spot to sleep, and lots of cuddles and attention. They also got quick baths before they left for their new homes!”
Saying goodbye was hard, but it was the right thing to do for Hagen and her family of four.
She said: “It was difficult not to get attached because they were so tiny, cute, and helpless.
“But we knew that we were just a stepping stone in their journey, and our job was to keep them safe and healthy before they found new homes. My eight-year-old took pride that we saved them, but my three-year-old was just sad to see them go.”

“I’m [going to] start working out if it brings me kitties,” said one user.
Another commenter said: “It breaks me to know that kittens are waiting for their next meal while Mom isn’t coming back.”
