The sixth Signature Event of the 2025 PGA Tour season is nearly upon us. That brings with it most of the world’s best golfers, albeit excluding World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the field at the Cricket Club Wissahickon Course in Flourtown, Pennsylvania will be even weaker.
Former major champion Jason Day has withdrawn from the tournament, citing a herniated disk in his neck. Veteran Patrick Rodgers will take his place in the 72-player field, according to the PGA Tour Communications Department.

The Signature Events bring with them elevated purses of $20 million, limited field-sizes and for most of them, no cuts. Typically, it is just the best of the best playing.
Scheffler opted not to play this week after winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in historic fashion. He expressed his desire to spend time with family before heading to Charlotte for next week’s PGA Championship.
Meanwhile, Day now appears to have his spot in the season’s second major in jeopardy.
While a herniated disk in the neck is not nearly as severe as one in someone’s back, it is nothing to scoff at.
It remains to be seen whether he will heal in time for Quail Hollow next week and improve upon his $72,625,220 in career earnings.
The Australian pro has had an up-and-down season thus far on the PGA Tour. He has made all nine cuts, but logged only four top-25 finishes. His T-3 at The American Express was his best.
But he has played the strongest fields rather well. The 2015 PGA Championship winner finished tied for eighth at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Masters.
The news comes on the heels of another fan favorite, Billy Horschel, announcing he is going to have surgery and will be out for an extended amount of time.
But even without Scheffler, Day, and Horschel, the Truist Championship field is stacked.
In one group alone, fans can see Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Tommy Fleetwood play the course. In fact, almost everyone near the top of the Official World Golf Rankings will be in Philadelphia this week.
Even Rickie Fowler received a sponsor’s exemption to tee it up.
So, there will be no shortage of talent.
