A woman in disbelief that her dog checks on her while she sleeps every morning asked her husband for video proof, and what he filmed quickly became a hit.

The dog’s daily tradition, unknown to her, began about four months ago, Becca Meik told Newsweek via TikTok, but it wasn’t until this past month that she learned about the dog’s routine.

She said her husband, Riley, started getting up earlier than her, which gave him the responsibility of letting the dogs out in the backyard. Once they were done, Digi would run back into the bedroom to check on Meik if her husband had left the door open. Thinking Digi woke her up, Riley tried his hardest to stop him, but the dog persisted.

“If Riley left the door even a crack open, Digi would nudge the door open to check on me, so Riley just started fully shutting our bedroom door when he’d go out in the morning,” Becca said. “He eventually stopped trying to stop Digi because Digi would still do it every morning anyway.”

Because she wouldn’t wake up, she didn’t believe it became Digi’s routine. Her husband started filming it every morning to prove it, which she shared in a montage on May 1 in a TikTok video under her account @becca_meik.

Every day, Digi runs to her side of the bed, puts his front paws up and peers his head over the comforter to check that she’s still there. Once his sniff confirms her safety, he plops back down on his doggy bed. His duty is complete.

The caption reads: “True love is not waking me up but just making sure I’m still sleeping in bed.”

Digi perfected the routine to ensure Meik does not wake up, which surprised many people. But she said she sometimes will hear a little sniff.

The internet immediately fell in love with Digi’s routine, and as of Tuesday, the TikTok video had more than 1.2 million views.

“The way he lays down after checking like he can finally relax,” pointed out a viewer.

A second person wrote: “And then laying with his back to you so he can protect you while you finish sleeping. God, we don’t deserve our wonderful dogs.”

Another added: “You can’t ever get rid of that type of bed frame. It’s required for their proof of life checks lol.”

A fourth said: “I feel like the poodle also wants to know and is watching for the other dog’s signal, knowing he’s got it handled,” which the owner confirmed is 100 percent what happens.
