Divorced Mom Shares Text Messages to Ex-Husband—Awe at What They Reveal

A co-parenting duo from Florida has left the internet in tears after sharing how they communicate with each other.

Em (@goodnightem), who did not share her full name, separated from her ex-husband when their son was two and a half years old.

The 30-year-old told Newsweek that they got married too fast and discovered that they weren’t compatible. “[We’re] better as friends,” she added.

In a gallery on TikTok, Em shared a photo of her toddler and wrote on the text overlay that even though his parents can’t be together anymore, he still has one house, one birthday and one holiday.

The reason for this, she explained, was the harmonious relationship between her and her ex-husband for the sake of their son’s wellbeing.

“I have a great dad that would give his life for mine,” the text overlay read.

Em also shared a screenshot of a text message thread with her son’s father arranging for him to pick up their son for the day.

“We have a really good co-parenting relationship, we get along very well, communicate very well and do things for each other still,” she told Newsweek.

For other families who are navigating this dynamic, Em said that she finds it easier to have a healthy co-parenting relationship by putting her son’s needs first.

“We have two options,” Em told Newsweek. “We could either hate each other forever and have to raise a child together, or we could get along and live happily for the sake of our child. There’s only one obvious right answer there.”

Em’s clip has been viewed over 243,000 times and received dozens of comments from other parents trying to navigate co-parenting.

“You are so blessed to have this relationship with your child’s daddy. I wish I had this relationship with my kid’s dad,” one user wrote.

“Now that’s how [you’re] supposed to co-parent,” another added.

“I wish my husband had this,” a third cried.

Many others turned to Em for advice. One user asked how she’s able to have just one birthday and holiday for her son to avoid one parent missing out.

“We do them together,” Em responded.

Em told Newsweek that the reaction to her TikTok post was mainly positive and acknowledged how many users wanted a similar relationship with their co-parent.

“[I had] a lot of comments saying that they wish that they had this sort of relationship with their co-parent as well,” she said.
