U.S. Open Site Suffers ‘Significant Damages’ amid Torrid Storms

Last year, it was Augusta National that faced severe damages due to a natural disaster that claimed over 200 lives.

Now, just six weeks away from the prestigious U.S. Open, another major course, the Oakmont Country Club, is dealing with the aftermath of a giant storm.

Recently, a large fan structure at Oakmont Country Club sustained major damage ahead of June’s major championship.

The damage occurred when severe storms swept through the Pittsburgh area on Tuesday night, impacting the newly upgraded 25,000-square-foot Trophy Club, a state-of-the-art ticket facility.

Thankfully, unlike the devastating incident at Augusta National, where lives were lost and the course suffered extensive damage, the situation at Oakmont Country Club is less dire.

According to the USGA, “everyone is safe—and that’s what matters most.”

But what about the course damages?

According to the USGA, the damage appears to be “significant” but fortunately, the Trophy Club was the only structure affected.

“With six weeks remaining until the championship, we’re confident in our ability to get back on track and do not anticipate any long-term impact,” they added.

As the golfing world counts down the days to the U.S. Open, set to take place from June 12-15, fans are eagerly awaiting the showdown.

Last year’s tournament saw Bryson DeChambeau claim his second U.S. Open title, edging out Rory McIlroy with a final score of 274.

But this year, the predictions are tough. What do you think? Do you give Phil Mickelson any chance of completing his career Grand Slam as McIlroy just did?

Or perhaps Scottie Scheffler, who’s been dominating the golfing scene? Let us know in the comment section below!
