A 10-month-old Labrador from Wrexham, Wales, has gained viral attention after a video of her “fire safety” antics left people in stitches.
When Lulu’s owner Naomi was lighting candles for a laid-back evening, the dog quickly proved she had other ideas, following her around the house and promptly blowing out the flames.
“She follows me around, blowing out my candles every time I light one,” Naomi, who didn’t give a surname, told Newsweek. “Lulu has always loved candles and I have no idea why. Possibly because she accidentally blew one out as a pup and I laughed—so she’s stuck with it.”
Naomi often shares videos of Lulu’s silly behavior, but she was caught off guard when one of them unexpectedly went viral overnight. “I didn’t expect to open my phone to 100,000 views this morning,” she said. That number has since soared, with the video now racking up over 380,000 views and counting.

The video has sparked a wave of hilarious and heartwarming comments.
One viewer said: “She was a firefighter in a past life,” and another wrote: “Trying to save lives one blow at a time.”
While another TikToker joked: “Safety dog doesn’t think you can be trusted—you keep leaving open flames everywhere.”
Naomi joked: “She goes above and beyond to protect her home from accidental fires. I’ll have to get her a high-vis vest and fire helmet for any new candles she decides to snuff out.”
While this pup’s antics left people laughing, burning candles can create a real danger. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, an average of 20 home candle fires are reported each day. The USFA recommends switching out traditional candles in favor of battery-operated flameless candles, particularly when pets or children are nearby.
If you do use lit candles, it is important to make sure they are in stable holders and away from anywhere they could be knocked down easily. Candles should also always be at least 12 inches away from anything that burns.
Lulu isn’t the only dog to work out how to blow out candles. In 2022, golden retriever Beau gained viral attention for working out how to blow out his own birthday candles on his second birthday.
