‘Wordle’ Today #1,348 Hints and Answer for Wednesday, February 26 Game

There’s no judgment if you’re in need of a helping hand with today’s Wordle.

The word-based game, which was acquired by The New York Times in January 2022, challenges players to come up with the daily five-letter solution within six attempts—and that can often be a tall task.

Even the brainteaser’s inventor, Josh Wardle, gets stumped from time to time. Speaking with Newsweek in 2022, the software engineer said he’s “not really the best” when it comes to cracking the puzzle, noting he “normally need at least four or five attempts.”

That being said, there is a specific reason for the game’s format.

“Through that process of refinement, I figured out that five letters and six tries was the ideal sweet spot,” Wardle shared with Newsweek readers at the time. “It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and to make you think, but most of the time people still manage to solve it. So, you feel a real sense of real accomplishment.”

Erhan Aslan, who teaches applied linguistics at the University of Reading in England, added that the game is likely so popular because of its shareability.

“Word-based puzzles and games have been around for quite a while, and they are nothing new,” Aslan said in a separate Newsweek interview. “What is different or new today is how and where people play games. Before the digital age, word puzzle games, particularly crossword puzzles, would usually appear in newspapers and magazines. People would do them while waiting for the bus or train, in the toilet, or just to kill time.”

Aslan continued: “In today’s digital age, like many other things, many simple games like Wordle can be played online. I think that Wordle gains its popularity not only from its simple rules but also from its virality on social media platforms as a result of people sharing/posting their scores to demonstrate a sense of accomplishment and validation.”
