Rams QB Matthew Stafford Trade Rumors Heating Up With Latest Developments

The Los Angeles Rams’ potential trade of quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to pick up steam this week at the NFL Combine.

First, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported that Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady recently hosted Stafford at his home in Montana, where they spent time together and even went skiing.

“Brady has been actively trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders, and discussions are ongoing,” Schultz wrote on X.

“Several teams are interested in Stafford if the Rams decide to move him, with Las Vegas believed to be the most aggressive suitor.”

However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport refuted that claim:

“Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and Rams QB Matthew Stafford ran into each other at a ski resort in Montana, sources say,” Rapoport wrote on X. “The meeting, unplanned, was not extensive or in-depth and did not include Brady ‘hosting’ or ‘recruiting’ Stafford, despite reports saying otherwise.”

In addition to those conflicting reports, Schultz reported that interested teams at the Combine have met with Stafford’s agent in Indianapolis. Among those interested teams are the New York Giants. That report has been more widely known.

The Rams recently gave Stafford’s agent permission to speak with other teams to see if he could secure a more lucrative contract than the one Los Angeles would be offering.

Now, Stafford and his agent are doing just that, as the 37-year-old is reportedly seeking a contract around $50 million per season moving forward.

The Rams acquired Stafford from the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2021 season after he spent the first 12 years of his career with Detroit. In his first season in Los Angeles, he led them to a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Rams then struggled in 2022, and haven’t been able to get past the Divisional Round of the playoffs over the last two years.

While Stafford has not requested a trade, he’s seeking a major contract with a big guarantee. If it comes from the Rams, Stafford will likely be happy to stay. If it comes from another team, the Rams appear as if they would be willing to trade him away.

The Giants and Raiders have been the two teams most heavily linked to Stafford since the trade rumors began circulating. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings are additional teams that have been linked to the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback if he’s traded this offseason.
