A heartbroken woman turned to comfort food after a painful breakup, ordering an ice cream delivery through DoorDash. What she didn’t expect was the heartfelt response from her delivery driver, which turned her night around.

Brooke Dwight (u/Defiant-Taste3024), 20, from Washington, shared the touching interaction on Reddit, where it received 3,500 upvotes in the subreddit r/doordash.

“The night I got broken up with I was basically losing my mind, I had work the next day as well so I was thinking ‘ice cream won’t fix this but it’ll help.’ I was devastated when that girl broke up with me so when I got the kind messages from my dasher it really boosted my mood,” Dwight told Newsweek.

In the in-app chat, Dwight sent a simple but emotional message to the delivery driver: “I just got broken up with and all I want right now is ice cream.”

The driver, Jo, responded with both professionalism and compassion, keeping Dwight updated on the delivery while also sharing a message of encouragement.

“I am sorry for their loss. I’m sure they will regret this decision forever. Walk tall. Ice cream is on the way,” Jo wrote.

After Dwight apologized for the late-night order, Jo reassured her that it was no problem and delivered the much-needed comfort food.

“Hagen is open now, in case you need more ice cream. Hang in there,” Jo added.

Ice cream has long been a symbolic comfort food for breakups, often depicted in movies and television as a go-to treat for emotional distress.

“One time while doing a DoorDash, I was very upset and trying not to cry when I handed the order to them because of something personal. She asked me for a hug. The lady CashApped me $20 extra because she knew I was going through a lot, and I still think about her!” one user commented.

Another shared, “I had a customer like this once who had a bad day & ordered from Popeyes with a $20 tip. He thanked me for taking his order because several others kept dropping it due to the wait time. He even looked like he had been crying when I pulled up. He was so grateful that I didn’t drop his order.”

A different delivery driver recalled a touching Valentine’s Day interaction: “Oh, I had an order on Valentine’s Day—it was three things: two boxes of chocolates and a case of energy drinks. There were no boxes of chocolate left since it was midday, so I sent her replacement options.

“When I delivered it, she was so happy and thankful I didn’t show up empty-handed. I smiled, told her I saw the order and just knew it had been a day. She unloaded her feelings as I stood on her porch, but I’m glad I made her smile.”
