TGL Triple-Header Has Golf Fans Clamoring For More Amid Rule Change

The TGL hosted a triple-header on President’s Day, and the fans seemed to have loved it.

All three matches came down to the wire, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. It was entertaining from Los Angeles Golf Club and Atlanta Drive’s overtime match to The Bay Golf Club defeating Boston Commons in the final hole.

A triple-header was a first for the TGL. But the league also unveiled a major rule change to the use of hammers prior to play on Monday.

Before the rule change, there were unlimited hammers available. However, they alternated which team could throw them. So, if one team never threw the hammer, the other team would never have an opportunity.

Now, each team starts with three hammers. They can throw them on any hole, with the maximum number being one hammer per hole, per team.

Both teams can throw a hammer on the same hole, which would make that hole worth three points.

It is rare for a league to make a rule change during the middle of a season, but after much criticism for the hammer, TGL officials chose to fix the rule.

This move brings strategy much more into play, which is a big reason why so many fans liked the matches on Monday.

Fans flocked to social media throughout the day to praise the TGL, not just for the competitive matches but also for the change in how teams use the hammer.

The TGL needed some momentum after an up-and-down start to their season. They have it now.

The league hit a sweet spot on Monday, and it seems they have fans’ attention.

The virtual golf league will host a doubleheader on Monday, Feb. 24, starting at 5 p.m. EST as the LAGC and New York Golf Club square off. The second match will be between Boston Commons and Atlanta Drive at 9 p.m. EST.

They will also have a match between the Bay Golf Club and Jupiter Links on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 9 p.m. EST.
