Baron Corbin Confirms New Ring Name Following WWE Departure

Tom Pestock, the fan-favorite wrestler formerly known as Baron Corbin, shocked fans with his sudden and (apparently) unwanted exit from WWE.

Now Pestock has confirmed that he has a new ring name for his return to the squared circle: Bishop Dyer.

On January 1, Corbin announced he was officially following the expiration of his contract in November 2024, embarking on a new journey in the wrestling world.

Now a free agent, he has confirmed on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast that he would now be going by “Nomad” Bishop Dyer, which says is an homage to his numerous previous stage persona.

“I’m going with ‘The Nomad’ Bishop Dyer, I’m gonna be The Nomad,” Pestock told Van Vliet. “I’m gonna roam and I’m gonna go to all these. Change a little bit, because it kind of pays tribute to The Lone Wolf, Dire Wolf, and then a bishop is higher than a baron, so we’re going up.”

“I think it’s just a powerful name, it’s a cool name,” the former King of the Ring continued. “And I want to be The Nomad. I’m gonna float and see where the wrestling world takes me in that sense.”

Interestingly, there actually is a real Bishop Dyer out there in the world. Anne Dyer is the current Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney in the Scottish Episcopal Church, but it is unknown if there is a connection there or that’s merely a quirky coincidence.

Since becoming a free agent, Pestock, competing under his real name, has made waves as he debuted in GCW’s Bloodsport event, facing off against Josh Barnett.

According to United States Patent and Trademark Office records, Pestock filed a trademark application for this name on January 21, indicating his intent to utilize it for entertainment and merchandise purposes. That triggered a flurry of speculation that he was not going to continue under his legal name, which has now been confirmed.

The trademark application encompasses various services, including various forms of wrestling entertainment, personal and televised appearances, and even online content related to professional wrestling.

Pestock also told Van Vliet that he was interested in wrestling with multiple promotions, appropriate for the new “Nomad” image.

“I’ve talked to you about I want to go here, I want to go here, I want to go here. I want to go to New Japan,” the new Bishop Dyer said. “TNA has called, so maybe there’s something there.”

“Maybe NWA, I’m open to it all because I love wrestling,” he continued. “And if I can go somewhere and be in front of fans, I’m going to go like, it’s just I know that I don’t want to sign a contract right now, because I like this ability.”

Reports suggest that New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) has shown interest in signing Pestock, though the specifics of those discussions remain murky at this point.
