Kyle Busch Opens Up On Future After Teasing NASCAR Exit

Kyle Busch has opened up on the future of the NASCAR Cup Series as his son, Brexton, advances in his own racing career. This comes after previous hints at a potential retirement from NASCAR.

At 39, Busch has cemented his place in NASCAR history with a remarkable career tally that includes 63 Cup Series victories, alongside numerous wins in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series.

Despite having a challenging season in 2024, finishing without wins and missing the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, Busch is a highly respected name in the sport.

Meanwhile, Brexton Busch, who at just 9 years old, is already impressing in the racing scene. Having started his journey in 2020, he quickly showed his potential by winning races in the Beginner Box Stock division.

He has already accumulated 32 wins across 13 different tracks. Brexton has also participated in various other events, including the prestigious Chili Bowl Nationals, where he even raced alongside his father.

Kyle Busch, watching Brexton’s progress closely, is planning a move from his demanding racing career to focus more on supporting his son’s burgeoning career. He revealed during an interview in 2023:

“In a perfect world, I would retire from Cup racing when Brexton is 15 years old, and I would go run a year of Truck… When Brexton turns 16, him and I can split that Truck where he can run the shorter track races and I can run the bigger track races.”

Kyle has now opened up on his future plans once again during the Chili Bowl Nationals. He commented:

“I am going to work on his schedule and see if I can find any weekday races. But obviously, it’s got to fit with Brexton because he’s the primary race schedule besides my NASCAR race schedule.

“I feel like we are doing both. I feel like a mixture of both and he will be good in anything.

“A lot of guys, like Larson grew up with dirt and he is great at the dirt stuff, obviously he is great at the NASCAR stuff. I just feel like if we mix a little bit of the dirt and a little bit of the pavement right now, you can do anything.

“And for him, when he turns 16, which path do you wanna go?” Busch added.

“Do you wanna stay in the dirt world and run sprint cars or modified or late models or do you wanna go to NASCAR and right now NASCAR is the end goal, so you gotta have some pavement stuff right now.”

Speaking exclusively to Newsweek Sports in 2024, Kyle Busch also commented on his son’s flourishing career:

“My dad was a racer, I’m a racer now, my son, third generation racer. So we’ve got this racing family dynasty all planned out, but he’s having a great time with it. He’s enjoying it a lot.

“He’s winning a lot and so I think that that’s been a lot of fun to see and his growth that he’s had. So again, just last weekend he was racing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was in Las Vegas, Nevada. So we needed to call him on his watch a few times and of course, that was easy to do.”
