Moment Woman Realizes She’s ‘Ruined’ Her Hair Days Before Friend’s Wedding

One woman’s hair mishap has gained over 47 million views on TikTok.

In a now-viral video, Sydney, Australia, resident Jordan Malloch shared the moment she attempted to give herself highlights using a DIY cap technique she saw on the app. What she didn’t expect, however, was to pull what looked like “noodles” of hair through the cap—leaving her, and now millions of viewers, in disbelief.

“I’d seen a TikTok where a girl gave herself highlights, and it looked really natural. I thought I could do it easily, but I was wrong,” Malloch told Newsweek. “I filmed the video to send to a friend because I was scared of the result. Then, when I started pulling noodles out of my head, I absolutely freaked out.”

In a caption on the video she wrote: “My best friends wedding is in 10 days and I just ruined my hair.”

Thankfully, the story has a happy ending. After removing the cap and washing her hair with purple shampoo, Malloch said the results were better than expected. “All was fine—it was just the initial shock of it,” she explained.

With her best friend’s wedding just days away, Malloch assured everyone that her hair is under control. “The bride thinks it’s funny and knows I do this kind of stuff all the time. It’s very on-brand for me,” she joked.

Malloch initially shared the video online to give her friends a laugh, but the response was far bigger than anticipated. “I’ve been making silly videos for years, mostly for friends, because I live away from them and like to laugh at life,” she said. “I honestly thought just a few people would see it.”

When she woke up the next morning, however, the video had already hit 100,000 views. By the time she left work later that day, it was at 5.5 million views—roughly the population of her home country, New Zealand. The video now stands at nearly 47 million views, with thousands of comments from amused viewers.

Even her workplace got in on the joke. “I told my CEO that I’d be resigning to become an influencer. We all had a laugh about how outrageous it was,” Malloch said. “I’ve always been someone who’s down for a laugh and happy to make fun of myself. Now, 47 million people have seen me just being myself.”

This isn’t the first time a hair mishap has gained viral attention. Last year a woman shared how her trip to the hair salon left her upset when her chic bob became what one TikToker dubbed a “pageboy do.”

Another woman gave herself a surprise makeover when she used what she thought was purple shampoo, only to realize it was actually purple dye shampoo, leaving her blonde locks a striking shade of lilac.
