Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Offers Important Update on Retirement Plans

Now that the 2024 regular season has wrapped up and the New York Jets did not make the playoffs, the team has an important task at hand. A new general manager and head coach must be found.

The other important task is deciding what to do with Aaron Rodgers, rather, what Rodgers decides to do in tandem with the new leadership.

Rodgers joined “The Pat McAfee Show” to offer an important update on his retirement plans, and whether he sees a future playing with the Jets.

“It’s gonna come down to the GM and coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards,” Rodgers stated.

Rodgers alluded to being unsure about his playing future, and many have called for the longtime veteran to simply hang up the cleats. The issue is that the Jets quarterback is one of the most competitive people in the league, and going out on a losing season might not be what he wants.

Either way, even if Rodgers did not want to retire, it would be interesting to see what the Jets would do if they retained him. New York needs a franchise quarterback, and they are likely going to draft a potential franchise prospect in the coming draft.

At No. 7 overall, the Jets are still poised to take a chance at a strong signal caller coming out of college.

Jalen Milroe from Alabama or Quinn Ewers from Texas could be viable options for the Jets at No. 7. The team might also choose to move up and select an even stronger prospect.

Rodgers staying would likely either spend another season mentoring the young quarterback, or potentially riding the bench and playing backup. Seeing him sitting on the bench might be a bit too farfetched.

The Jets have already begun interviewing head coach candidates, including former head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan is attempting an NFL comeback, but a recent report indicated the Jets have already passed on him.

Aaron Glenn, Ron Rivera, Matt Nagy, and Steve Spagnuolo are among the high-profile names that the Jets are considering to be the next head coach of the franchise. In total, the team has or will be interviewing a total of 17 candidates thus far.

Whatever head coach comes in might be not sold about Rodgers being around, which is also what the quarterback alluded to.
