Triston Casas Offers Candid Take On Persistent Red Sox Trade Rumors

Triston Casas knows the deal.

The Boston Red Sox first baseman has been named in trade rumors throughout the offseason. There are conflicting reports on Boston’s willingness to move Casas, but all indications are the Red Sox would move the 24-year-old in the right deal.

Casas offered his perspective on the rumors while speaking with reports last weekend.

“I tried to disassociate with the emotion of the business part of baseball,” Casas told reporters at Boston’s Fenway Fest, vis Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. “I try not to get too caught up in it. I feel like this is part of the business of baseball, checking in on players, seeing what kind of value you could get back. And you never know what kind of haul you could get for a player, or how much another organization values somebody. So, it might be in the best interest to move myself or anybody, really, if there’s a good enough package.

“Checking in and other teams asking about me and whatever, I think I see it as a positive. Maybe somebody else sees value in myself, as well.”

Casas, who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2018, said he’d prefer to spend his entire career in Boston.

“I love Boston,” Casas was quoted as saying. “I love everything about it, and they’ve welcomed me with open arms since my first professional day. So it’d be great to play here as long as possible. I love the fans, and they’ve welcomed me generously all the time.

“I would love to play the rest of my career here, but if it’s elsewhere, I just feel like March 28 no matter where it’s at, I’m going to be playing a Major League game. So I just focus on that.”

Casas enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023, hitting .263 with 21 homers and an .856 OPS. But injuries limited him to just 63 games last season when he hit .241 with 13 home runs.
